For over a year now I’ve been searching for a SnagIt (by Techsmith) alternative especially one with the scrolling capture feature which I find very useful for screen-captures. I admit PicPick Tools has really caught my eye. I’ve tried other candidates like Faststone Capture, Greenshot, etc., but it’s either they’re not truly free for personal use or it lacks the scrolling capture feature.
One thing though when I tried capturing a scrolling embedded frame, PicPick proceeded to capture the whole scrolling window, and not the frame only which I specifically wanted - but I can live with that. Performance wise I’m not complaining - 10MB of RAM is decently lightweight and I’m liking the interface because it’s very easy to get familiar with its controls & it stays on the system tray.
