a fellow Linkedin Group member asked: Do you like or dislike the new features of Gmail? How does Gmail compare to others free emails, such as Yahoo.com and Hotmail.com?
I have maintained my other accounts at Live & Y! as a means to either retain reputation scores for Y!A, to keep friends on that IM network who hesitate creating a new address on Google, and/or for Flickr use. And I know for some it’s just to simply retain the longevity of the account for some unique reason. But really, these inboxes just get filled with spam even when the security filters are turned on at their highest levels. Simply, Gmail has become the ‘Alpha-Mail’ of world wide web electronic mail :) while the others have fizzled out as spam cans or back-up addresses only.
Likes: high capacity for storage (especially during the early years) & massive attachment capability; filtering/archive, no folders (yeah!); searching mail made easy (think Outlook); a powerful ‘search contacts’ getting hits from all fields & partial/unfinished/wildcard keywords (but this works only in the older version or via IE6, which has become a big sour dislike)
Dislikes: one has to switch to the older version in order to harness the power of search contacts grrr!; can’t directly communicate to msn/live, y!m, etc.; username has no direct link to an openid (except of course if you’re on blogger aka blogpost, but then Gmail is not blogger)
Feature Requests: contact fields for birthday &/or anniversaries that auto-sync with Google Calendar.
How about you? Share your thoughts. too!
Note: As of this writing my tweets have just surpassed the 3-digit mark *woot*
